The Story Behind our Clean Energy Investment Prospectus with Acre

NZIW

Our relationship with Acre first began when they contacted us and offered to support our EmpowerCymru conference in 2025.

They proposed hosting a clean energy investment roundtable – and we said yes, of course. The result was a room full of engaged people who wanted to support energy infrastructure investment here in Wales, and were eager to identify exactly what we needed to do to make our ambition a reality.

Following the roundtable came a short report that set out the situation: Wales is primed for investment; we have a favourable investment climate with a long list of projects that are seeking support.

What happened next was something neither NZIW or Acre might have anticipated.

We agreed that we wanted to work together again – but what should the focus be?

Investment was clearly on everyone’s lips, but how to spread the word and get people on board? How to bring together a coalition from across the energy space, encompassing experts, communicators, investment professionals, and government that could drive change?

Working with Amber Energy, we co-created a Clean Energy Investment Summit in the heart of Cardiff, to build out our asks and messaging and to mobilise support around investment for Wales.

The group we invited actually turned up – a great start! Not only that, they were keen to contribute with ideas on how to get this project moving. This group consisted of not just energy developers, but government representatives and arm’s-length bodies, investment funds, and advocacy and advisory groups from across the energy spectrum.

Our ambition became to deliver a Clean Energy Investment Prospectus for Wales, which could corroborate and support Trade & Invest Wales’ output and platform, promoting Wales as a leading clean energy transition hub and a cornerstone of the UK industrial base.

Following the event, Acre and NZIW held one-to-one conversations with all attendees who agreed, to make sure that what we were building was something that everyone could support and felt was impactful.

We are very proud of the result, and are delighted that we can share it here.

But it doesn’t stop there – the Prospectus is intended to be a ‘gateway’ document, which demonstrates the investment opportunities on offer in the clean energy sector.

The next step is to bring it to a wider audience and ensure that, through our support network here in Wales, we can de-risk investment opportunities and secure Wales’ position as a place to do impactful business.

The Prospectus is also intended to be a living document, which can be updated as projects progress. You can find contact details for Trade & Invest Wales on the back of the document.
