Marine Energy Wales and Net Zero Industry Wales partner up to strengthen Wales’ clean energy voice

NZIW

Marine Energy Wales (MEW) and Net Zero Industry Wales (NZIW) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, outlining and enhancing their collaborative efforts to support the marine renewable energy industry in Wales.

MEW serves as a unified voice for the tidal stream, tidal range, floating offshore wind and wave energy sectors in Wales, whilst NZIW’s mission is to make Wales the country of choice for producing sustainable goods and services, providing guidance and support for Welsh businesses to build greener futures.

Both organisations work to support the efforts of industry, governments and research communities to accelerate the development of the marine renewable energy industry in Wales and raise the nation’s profile, thereby attracting further investment.

It is hoped this recently signed agreement can help identify and boost opportunities for mutual support and areas of collaboration. In signing this agreement, MEW and NZIW pledge to work together to build the case for the production of further renewables in Wales and the UK and to provide the support necessary to remove barriers to deployment.

Both MEW and NZIW also agree to support the growth of a healthy and innovative supply chain and a UK-wide industrial strategy for floating offshore wind.

Tom Hill, Programme Manager at Marine Energy Wales said: “Marine Energy Wales and Net Zero Industry Wales share a common purpose – to accelerate the clean energy transition in Wales and maximise the opportunities for Welsh businesses and communities. This collaboration reinforces our commitment to positioning Wales as a leader in marine renewable energy, whilst supporting the journey towards a sustainable, net zero future.”

Ben Burggraaf, CEO at Net Zero Industry Wales, said: “It is great to formalise what is already a strong relationship with Marine Energy Wales as we work together for a low carbon industrial future. Accelerating the clean energy transition and ensuring it is a just transition which supports jobs and businesses is vital in making this project a success — and we can only do it with wind, tidal, and wave as a key part of the mix.”
